Easy Whole30: Whole30 for the Busy Life

Hello again! I can’t tell you how good it feels to have finished up my first Whole30. It has really changed so much for me and I am excited to use what I have learned going forward. But for a busy mom, making a plan for an easy Whole30 was key. 

Completing the Whole30 would not have been possible if I didn’t plan out how I was going to make this process as easy on myself as possible. If I suddenly cooked every night and spent hours in the kitchen on meal prep and dishes (<— ugh, the death of me), I wouldn’t have completed it and the results wouldn’t be sustainable.

Don’t get me wrong, I like cooking and baking from time to time but it has never been something that I want to spend all my time on! I need easy things and easy go to meals. Likewise, I need lunches that are quick, breakfasts that don’t take forever and dinner recipes that don’t require every kitchen tool and ingredient that I have.

Not only that, but I have an 8 month old that is moving around and getting into EVERYTHING!! I just can’t spend all that time in the kitchen. I want to spend time with my son and that is where my priorities are right now. But I want to eat healthy and feed my family healthy food. It’s quite the conundrum, huh?

Well I did it! An easy Whole30 is possible. I had some super lazy girl statuses but I stayed well fed and happy with my food choices. So here is how I did it:

Do your Research

In the Whole30, a little up front work will go a long way. Do your research, have a plan and know what is compliant and not compliant. Without this foundation, staying with the program throughout the Whole30 days will be really hard. Once you have that foundation though, you can be as lazy or as experimental as you would like.

Have Your Emergency Foods Stalked

Your emergency food stash is key in making your Whole30 easy. The list can help you make a quick and easy meal at any point in time. Just pair a few things from each group and go!

Stay Consistent

For me consistency is key. If I have a few go to meals, I am good. That way some days I can mix it up a bit but if I don’t feel like cooking or being in the kitchen, I have my things to fall back on!

In the beginning, it was overwhelming to look at people’s meal plans and to see them preparing something new every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If I cooked one thing for one of those meals, I was having a good day. People told me that the Whole30 was a lot of work and a lot of food prep. I knew that with an 8 month old and the travel we were going to be doing, that just wasn’t going to be a thing, so I had to figure out how to make my Whole30 easy.

So here is what a typical day looked like to me.


Breakfast is always my favorite meal of the day.  I learned early on though that I needed to have a starchy vegetable and fruit in the morning if I was going to make it through the day. So pretty much every day I made three eggs on a bed of spinach (with runny yokes…yum with the spinach!), a sweet potato and fruit.

My favorite and still very easy was to make a sweet potato hash. I heat the potato for 2 minutes in the microwave, cut the sweet potato into chunk and put it in the food processor. On a stove, I would cook it with olive oil, salt and onion powder. Seriously, this is to die for! I looked forward to breakfast every day!

If I was running short on time, I just poked holes in the sweet potato and stuck it in the microwave for 4-5 minutes depending on how big the potato was.


For lunch I had tuna salad a lot. It was either tuna salad, an Applegate hot dog, or leftovers from the night before. I paired these things with a side salad and I usually split half an avocado with my son, added a piece of fruit and finished my sweet potato from the morning. Putting this all together took about 5 minute max. Super easy and tasty!

For my tuna salad:

  • Whole30 mayo to taste
  • 2 cans of Tuna
  • 1 Whole Apple
  • Dijon Mustard to taste
  • 1 TBSP Lemon Juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste


For diner I did experiment with a few recipes, but when I did cook, I cooked in bulk so I had leftovers for the next day or the next several days. Since I did this in the winter, I really liked soups with lots of veggies, chicken and bone broth.

My go to’s included a meat and veggie – I also always included a starch, usually a sweet potato heated up in the microwave.

I tried to make things that I would normally make, but would do Whole30 compliant ingredients. I also was on the lookout for dinners that made a lot of food but only used a few common ingredients.
